A group of blues lovers and musicians -- among them the talented J.C. Smith -- have banded together to form the Silicon Valley Blues Society, with a goal of supporting and promoting live blues in the region.
Besides Smith, the founders are Marianne Adoradio, Theresa Miranda, Pamela Banks and Paul Reddick, who owns the Smoking Pig BBQ restaurant on North Fourth Street in San Jose.
"I love the blues," said Reddick, whose restaurant hosts a weekly blues jam on Tuesday nights. "And the reason I love the blues is that it's American roots music."
The group is officially launching and hoping to find new members with a party March 25 at No. 1 Broadway in Los Gatos. The 7:30 p.m. event will feature a jam with Chris Cain, Gary Smith, Andy Just, Sammy Verela and anyone else who wants to join in. The Silicon Valley Blues Society's website (www.svblues.org) won't go live until March 25, but you can get more information at www.facebook.com/SiliconValleyBluesSociety.
